YAHOO WORD OF THE DAY

some say today's word applies to me: feckless. those fools don't know what they are talking about

CATHOLIC CHURCH

the catholic church is debating whether to let admitted supporters of abortion parttake in the sacrements. what about admitted pedophiles? just wondering.

NHL

apparently the nhl is still functional. who knew? i'd give a pick to win lord stanley's cup, but i really don't know who's left.

SO ARE YOU THE POT OR THE KETTLE?

over at therightwing.com, a poster has taken the democrats to task for supporting a draft dodger in '92 and a war hero in '04. for shame. the problem: the republicans supported a war hero in '92 and a draft dodger in '04. how can you critize? are they saying that we should always go for the draft dodger?

TILLMAN HONORED

Tillman was promoted and given the silver star for heroic acts in combat. maybe this will put into perspective what soldiers must do to earn silver stars. they are not given out lightly. let's give due respect to all recipients of this cherished reward. (read Kerry)

TERRY JONES ON SEMANTICS

over at the guardian's comment pages Terry Jones of Monty Python fame as some words on the United States' word choices in our campaign in iraq. he finds it odd that US mercenaries are called "civilian contractors" while iraqi citizens are labeled "insurgents." there does seem to be an unfair slant on terminology thrown around in this conflict, er "war."

CANCER IN THE CLUBHOUSE?

A.J. Pierzynski is being called a cancer in the clubhouse. it sounds like the giants are looking for scapegoats to take the blame for a sub-par april.

BUSH THE IMPERIALIST

a commenter chastised me for speaking ill of the president due to his efforts to grow the country with at the least economic imperialism, and at most territorial imperialism. i say that if we're going to go that route, why are we picking countries so poorly? iraq has oil and we got to depose of a madman, but saudi arabia is right next door, why not them? americans love italian and chinese food, can they be next on the list? and canada has been asking for it, the way they don't protect the border and offer us drugs and other health care related treats. they want it. let's get going before that other imperialist, france takes all the choice countries.

NFL DRAFT REVISITED

a commenter points out that i had stated that bj Symons from texas tech would not be drafted. i was wrong. he went in the 7th round to houston. here's to his career working out at least as good as kliff kingsbury's has.

eli manning= elway? only time will tell. i hate elway, but i don't hate eli yet. he reminds me of jd drew, passing on the phillies to go to the cards. if you want to ruin yourself i the public's eye, go for it. for his sake i hope he pans out better than rivers. actually, i kind of hope he fails. i have to be honest.

THE MAVERICK MINUTE

bill simmons is mostly right on the subject of the mavs. seeing nelson go is a must. all offense all the time is fun to watch, but painful to route for. i think it's time to let finley go, and hopefully get more young and tenacious talent. they need a stopper in the biggest way. rasheed could help at this point. they need someone that can step up and take charge in the post on both ends of the floor, and they need to move bradley. maybe he could work for cuban getting things down out of the top shelf and free lance saving kittens from trees, as this basketball thing seems to be alluding him. all in all, they need to pick big three pieces (nash, dirk, and jamison) keep their role players (najera, fortson, howard, and daniels), and start fresh. trim the offense fat and build something that resembles a nba team

HOMERS BY THE BAY

barry is out homering his team 10 to 9. ouch

GIANTS AND PRODUCTIVE OUTS

seeing the giants at the bottom of the productive outs list was not surprising, as i'd expect them to be near the bottom of most team batting categories other than IBB. looking at the walks leaders, the top four walking teams are all in the bottom 6 in POP. looking at batting average, though, all the 6 top POP teams lead the bottom 6 POP teams, allowing for a higher OBP as a group. this is misleading, as these groups will both regress towards the mean, making the teams that walk more the true threats to score more runs. also, of the bottom POP teams, the red sox and yankees, can expect significant improvement later on. boston will improve with the return of nomar and nixon, and the yankees will improve when their shortstops start hitting. in the top 6 of POP, who can reasonably expect texas to keep their .316 average? they are playing well above their heads as a whole. all in all, i'd say that POP is a POS stat.

NEGATIVITY

i'm all for negativity when it's appropriate, but in today's University Daily at Texas Tech, Adam Boedeker decided to poison a tribute to pat tillman with a needless shot at other pro athletes. why make these remarks? my guess is that adam in a moron. see? negativity works when used appropriately.

BONDS AND THE GIANTS

speaking as a die-hard bonds fan, these walks are great. he might get on base every single game this year. as a giants fan, i wonder if they should just start signing every fifth fan to either pitch mop-up or bat seventh. i don't see how that would work out any worse than the current plan

THE O.C.

what was once a guilty pleasure has now become to nice and predictable. someone needs to die or see aliens or turn to moromism to spice things back up. come on, i need my junk food for the mind.

BARRY BONDS

from and letter to luce. i see where people are coming from, but no one has produced any evidence. even the annymous report saying he recieved them is being refuted. i think most of this is people wanting to hate him because he's a jerk to the media. i.e. the people that report this stuff

JOGGING

man-o-man. i had told myself i would start jogging this week. yeah, that did not happen at all. is it that i don't want to change, or that i really hate jogging? maybe i'm just lazy.

DAMN THE SCHEDULE-MAKERS

i am a tv junkie, and i enjoy 4 shows that come on tonight. the problem: they all come on in two slots on the schedule, making either miss half of them or tape half of them. boy, life is so hard. not like in other, war-torn countries.

THE RESTAURANT

wow that intern sucked. my only concern was that while he was annoying, he made for great reality tv. i hope some others can step up and lower the bar

WHAT I THINK ABOUT DURING THE COMMERCIALS

how much brain damage and/or bribe money it would take for me to vote for bush.

CHARLES GOES JOBBING

i hit up a lot of places today, but no luck. el paso can be a cruel mistress

RUSH ON CLINTON

apparently rush links loyalty to clinton as a sign his friends fear for their lives. could it just be that people are loyal because he's a nice guy? maybe bush should kill some people to keep his friends on the ranch

TILLMAN

i'm sorry, but pat tillman does not deserve a full membership in the hall of fame. his actions were brave and noble, but the hall of fame should be reserved for actions on the football field. put him in as a special exibit, and honor him this year. i like the idea of a black bar to signify loss.

NFL DRAFT

i'm glad to see that Carlos Francis from my ttu got drafted in the 4th round today. i hope welker catches on as a returner somewhere, but i fear that is wishful thinking. make sure to catch 5 wide sets in oakland this year: you may see francis

ESPN

I love sports, but 5th roud coverage of the nfl draft? come on
