crossing mediums

a pet peeve of mine is when movies are lambasted for paling in comparison to books they are based on. i think we should judge each as separate entities due to the extreme differences in the art forms. this isn't to say that i on average enjoy translations when i am familiar with the material. for instance, primal fear becomes unwatchable if you've read the book. if you haven't it's a fine movie. that's all i'm trying to say.
